Founded in 2011 by our very own Creative Director, Flavio Argemi, Inspiration Grid has grown from a passion project to share curated art, architecture, and design to a globally-recognised treasure trove of inspiration.
With thousands of articles spanning illustration, typography, fashion, fine art, and more, Inspiration Grid has taken a life of its own as a renowned high-traffic website. Every year the site sees nearly 4 million page views from more than a million users worldwide.
As you can imagine, hosting a party this big takes up a lot of space: 1.22 Terabytes of image data per month, to be exact.
A fresh makeover (with long legs and no head)
While the previous iteration of the site was functional, it lacked the robustness typical of a website this size and status. After a careful review of how users were taking inspiration from Inspiration Grid, we redesigned and rebuilt the platform to prioritise discoverability, scalability, and speed.
What do we mean by “long legs”? Sustainability was a key objective for the project: through this rebuild we wanted to provide Inspiration Grid a solid platform for long-term growth.
What about “no head”? This is our cheeky nod to headless website development. The term “headless” comes from the concept of removing the “head” (or front end) of the website from the “body” (or back end). Although the visual may not be particularly inspiring, adopting a headless approach offers big benefits in the way of site security and speed.
Instant inspiration
As many of us have experienced, patience is not one of inspiration’s virtues. More times than not, it waits for no one.
Keeping pace with inspiration’s fast and often fleeting nature meant a quick, convenient search and browsing experience was a must. Supported by intuitive creative categories, we integrated Algolia technology to deliver instant search and content filtering display as world-class as the website itself.
